The CSPM Marketing Committee is one of several committees where members share their knowledge and expertise to support the CSPM’s mission and vision. This committee specifically supports CSPM staff in strategizing marketing campaigns and efforts to increase brand awareness. For the past couple of months, this committee has gone above and beyond to support the museum. The CSPM staff nominated this group for this month’s Volunteer of the Month because of these efforts. “This committee knows how to show up! They each bring expertise and enthusiasm to our monthly marketing meetings. They also volunteer throughout the year - from face painting to gallery attendants, to delivering brochures, stuffing name tags and staffing events - they show up time and again to support the Museum. Their dedication and effort is so appreciated. We are very lucky to have them!”
Ellen Thommesen, CSPM Marketing Chair
The CSPM needed additional volunteers to support our Grand Reopening and Gift of History events. Each member of the Marketing Committee stepped up to take on additional opportunities to support the other museum departments. CSPM staff admired how they went above and beyond their marketing committee duties to ensure the CSPM had a successful Grand Reopening and Grand Reopening.

Doris McCraw
Doris is passionate about history. She joined the Marketing Committee in 2020 to help support the CSPM and what we offer to the public. As a staff member at Visit Colorado Springs, she offers insights into how to get information to tourists about the CSPM and its offerings.
In addition to the Marketing Committee, Doris also volunteers as a Gallery Attendant. “One of my special memories is seeing the awe and excitement of visitors who are seeing something at the museum for the first time. I especially enjoy seeing this in the 50% of the Story exhibit.”
Doris also writes novels as Angela Raines, research and writes women’s history in Colorado including medical history. She also enjoys hiking and taking photos!
Melissa Bernal
As a native of Colorado Springs, Melissa loves her city. She started volunteering on the Marketing Committee in 2021 to continue sharing with others about the unique stories of our area. Melissa has an extensive background in marketing from her roles at Chick-fil-a and Westpeak Mobility. She always brings fresh ideas, energy and excitement in spreading the word about the Museum and our offerings.
One of Melissa’s favorite memories was participating in the CSPM’s Grand Reopening Family Fun Day. “A special memory would be watching all the patrons faces so happy to be returning (to the museum) at the grand reopening event and keeping cool inside on that hot day!”
Outside of the Museum, Melissa enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and traveling, especially a road trip!
Gina Pietramale
Gina joined the marketing committee because she wanted to feel more connected to her local community. For her, volunteering at the CSPM was the obvious choice because of its mission to preserve and share the stories of who we are, how we got here, and where we’re going. Gina has worked with the Gazette’s sales and marketing division for nearly 25 years. She also provides incredible insight into how the CSPM spread awareness regionally and locally.
Gina fondly remembers her experience at a Gift of History. “The first time I attended the Gift of History I was moved by what a large segment of the Pikes Peak region comes together to preserve the museum and its legacy.”
Gina is a huge fan of the CSPM’s lecture series. In addition, she visits arts exhibits and goes to concerts.
Marissa Rodriquez
Marissa joined earlier this year and is the newest Marketing Committee member. She reached out the CSPM because she has a passion for learning the history of the places that she lives in and visits. She appreciate how the Museum provides free access to the stories about our community. Currently, Marissa works for an engineering firm to manage and expand the workforce development program-Rodrqiuez University. She also provides freelance marketing work for small businesses in our community. Marissa’s experience at Rodriquez and KOAA provides a unique perspective in grass roots marketing efforts from community events to social media.
“I greatly enjoyed tabling for the museum at the Food Truck Tuesday events to share about the museum’s Grand Reopening. I loved getting to talk with the community and hear their excitement about the reopening. Many of them would recount their favorite memories. It was so amazing to hear of how the CSPM has such an impact on our city.”
You can find Marissa hiking, training for a race, crocheting and reading in her spare time.
